I am looking into purchasing some of the Fiero Warehouses IMSA quarter panels at some time in the future. I have read many of the threads on here about quarter panel scoops and looked at all of the different options, and I think that the IMSA style would fit the look of my car the best. I am curious what the best way of fully utilizing the scoop and channeling the air into the intake would be? Any ideas of the easiest way to make some sort of ducting? From what I have seen on here, it seems that almost everyone has gone with the open element filter behind the quarter panel. I was wanting to know if anyone has made some sort of duct work or anything that will make it more of a sealed system like it is from the factory and send all of the incoming air into the stock filter box? I really do not want to relocate my filter to the quarter panel because that is just too much of a hassle to change, and even with those type of setups it does not seem that all of the potential air is being used. I know that the stock 2.8 will not really benefit from this, but at some point down the road I plan on swapping in something that will need the extra air.
I am using side scoops on my 4.9 They are not Archie's. What I did was to fiberglass a intake tube from a Chevy Blazer to the back of my scoop. I modded my air filter by removing the spider and welding a 3 inch to the bottom of the can it runs into the wheel well and connects to the Blazer intake tube.
This is my car. I have this type scoop on both sides. This side of the car has the Oil Cooler in the scoop, On the other side I have done this.
Modded Air Filter can
and in the wheel well
My 4.9 with it's 3 inch cold air intake.

Since I am building a widebody, I use the IMSA widebody fenders but the application is the same as the IMSA quarter panels. I bought a universal cold air intake....just for the parts and tied it to the stock air cleaner. I added dual intake ducts to the body.
Note the opening cut in the rear fender
And the dual duct that I used.

Mecham scoops came with a force fed setup. I took it out though. I have my air filter in the side scoop as it is way too big to section the air to it. and I have an oil cooler on the other side, before my turbo. With the opening below it too, I figured it would get more air being open in the side.
i have these same scoops on my 86gt. the passenger side is just on there with a small opening under the battery that i guess draws in a little bit of air for the engine. on the drivers side i cut the original panel right where the scoop is and glued it to the back of the scoop panel. then i just hooked all my original intake back up to it, so the scoop and the air it draws from outside the car is the sole sourse of intake air.
side note. was there ever a write up for how to do that little duck tail spoiler? i remember what it was from and people trying it, but i don't remember a "how to". if come up with another fastback gt i'd like to try that.

Where could i buy one of those? How did you make the dual intake ducts converge to one tube? I plan on purchasing these scoops in the near future: How did you secure your dual ducts to the quarter panels? Also does anyone know if the Fierowarehouse is still around? When I Google it says fierowarehouse catalog from 2005, I've never ordered from him so I just thought I would ask. I sure hope they are.
Any other info on channeling the air from these type of quarter panels to the stock air box would be much appreciated. I would prefer not to end up with an open element filter behind there because that just looks like a pain to replace. Thank you.
When I used my stock set up but had it attached to the air cleaner in the scoop, it felt kind of restricted. I set it up this way because I had to pass smog for visual. But now I have a solid tube going right to the air cleaner in the scoop area. It makes a difference...
I have the stage II scoops

I used Doug's scoops and it is probably in the archives by now but posted pictures of how to enclose the backside of the driver's side to the factory air setup. I even enclosed the passenger's side scoop so that it flows air to the engine compartment just below the battery area.

oreif -- I did the same thing for the passenger side. I asked myself why have scoops if they are not functioning...
This is the driver side
and this on the other.. I had to weld up a bracket and I wanted to go with the temp controlled fan to actually draw the air in the scoop... Works awesome. It's a tight fit but it works

I went to O'reilly auto parts and purchased a 3" flexible exhaust pipe(around $10) and attached it to the rubber elbow on my factory air cleaner.I routed it where I wanted it and cut off the difference. The seams in the pipe don't matter because it is pre-filter air.I also used a K&N style filter in the factory housing. It works great, for cheap!!
