Well if you want to rip off the steering rack..damage the aero nose. The potential damage you'll be doing hooking a chain and flat towing a Fiero will cost lots more than renting a tow dolly. If you don't have $$ now, will you have it to repair the Fiero?

I agree. Not to mention a cop might pull you over and give you a large ticket. One thing unsafe is Fiero brakes are not going to stop a Fiero AND a truck which is what you have to do if you flat tow it.
I have towed my fiero hunders of miles with a strap, never damaged anything. Make sure you use a strap made for this, they stretch a little. I just wrap a chain, strap or a rigging cable around the front cross member that is just below the steering rack.
I have flat towed Fieros before. Not a long distance, and one time, long before cell phones, the front driver kept on pulling and pulling the more I tried to slow down. I HIGHLY recommend that both drivers be talking to each other over the phone with a headset during the pull. All my pulls were in town and less than 5 miles.
Having used a chain a long time before and aways tow straps after, I have to say I would never pull a car I wanted to keep with a chain. There is no tug untill the chain gets tight, and then its 100%.
Make sure you don't run over the pull rope/strap/chain. I also wire the tow strap hook on it doesn't fall off when it gets some slack in it. You can even tape it on with tape. People will really look at you strange when you add that tape to the hook, but after having it fall off on a street where you don't want to crawl under the car, you will agree it makes a lot of sense.
I am saying I have done it, but I also don't recommend it as the way to do it.
