So my new clutchnet disc arrived. I ordered it because I felt they built the best clutches at the most reasonable price. Well now I am convinced!

This disc looks amazing, I ordered an 9 11/16 disc with a fiero spline. They custom build their clutches in california but the most interesting thing I see is the springs are now totally enclosed. I have no worries about the springs coming apart like they seem to do with Spec clutches.

I just thought id share a couple pics since I have not seen anything showing the enclosed springs, it may be a new design they are using. The old ones had a little hole and you could see the springs.

If this performs as well as it looks I will probably never use another clutch manufacturer again... Oh and the price was great. They charged me 125 for this disc plus a little for shipping. Not too shabby!

The clutch looks nice.

What engine is it backing up? And, what type of trans is it mated to?

Good luck. I hope it gives you many years of good service.

Its going on a turbo 3.4 with a getrag. I have high hopes for this clutch but was especially surprised by the fully enclosed springs.

They are great, I have a 3.4 with everything except a cam, and the clutch bites hard. Very solid product.

If you don't mind me asking what preasure plate are you using and how is the engagement of the clutch ?

The reason I asked is because I was told the clutch would engage "fast".

I am getting parts for my swap and got the same clutch, it does look very well made.
Looks like the one above is also a level red, which would be the copper one.

I have a Clutchnet also. Mine must be the older design. It has the small holes in the spring surrounds you were referring to. The springs are still encased and there is practically no way for them to come out.

That is a red level 2 pressure plate. They make the pressure plates in 5 levels. Green>Yellow>Red level 1>level 2> level 3.

I love my clutchnet. It has never let me down or gave the slightest indication that it is going to. I like the new design. At least there is one company that is still trying to make a better product... not just cheaper. Thanks for sharing.

Clutch does engage fast, really fast. Makes first gear difficult untill you get used to it. But second, and third, shifts are incredibly fast, like an automatic when you get good.

I used a regular O'reilly's pressure plate, kept my whole clutch setup at something like $260 for a clutch capable of holding 400 rwhp.

I couldn't find the clutch disk listed in clutchnet's website. Do you have the part no. for the disc you purchased and is the larger 9-11/16' disc a "plug-n-play" with the Getrag if you're using the stock flywheel and pressure plate?

I am sorry I do not have part numbers for the larger disc. I just called them up and told them what I was doing... Just ordered a 9 11/16th disc with a fiero splined hub. They were very helpful and asked many questions to ensure they built what I needed. Also got it delivered within a week. Very happy with it.

It will not work however with the fiero pressure plate. I am sure they could get you a pressure plate as well as the larger one from west coast fiero is very pricey. Flywheel is just stock fiero stuff.

As for the operation, I have been driving on this clutch for a while and it engages very fast, there was a period where chatter was pretty bad but that seems to have gone away. It does however not like to slip while you start. Its a trade off between stalling and starting smooth. With some practice it is not hard to drive though. My girlfriend can and does very well but still thinks the car is too harsh all the way around. Stiff suspension, heavy steering, touchy brakes, grippy clutch... the list goes on.

Engagement is incredibly fast and the engine does not have a chance in the world of getting away from it.

All in all I am VERY satisfied with the quality and function of the product. Will probably use them for a long time to come although since I am not putting down huge amounts of power right now I might have opted for a slightly less aggressive clutch. Just for softer engagements. I am very happy though and plan on putting many miles on this set up.
