When I turn on the heat to full, I barely get a good flow of air. I'm thinking the air intake might be clogged or something. Where should I look for a clog? I found two screws missing from the fan motor and it was sucking air but after replacing them it still does not blow good. Not like my 86se. This is an 87GT. I have another motor in another 86se but the motor sounds ok. If I have to replace the motor will the 86se fan motor work ok in the 87gt?

Tks

the intake for the fan is on the windshield cowl. tho, most likely, what you have is many leaves packing in the ductwork. maybe even a mouse nest.

Yep, the air intake for the climate system is under the grating below the windshield. Its a big leaf and crap collector on all cars. People will even leave them full of snow and ice and wonder why no heats blowing.

Had a mouse house up in the top but not in the hole itself. I cleaned / vacuumed it all out and I still get little air. After checking everything I'm down to the first grill inside the fan housing. It looks like a heater coil but I know it's not. Looking from the inside at this, under passenger side dash through the heater coil cover theres a mesh screen. Went to my parts car and tore it out of there to see what it was, (just a wire mesh screen) once out, looking from the inside now it looks the same from the outside, like a heater coil. Air is not going through this piece. I put my air compressor on it while my brother was on the inside and he could feel the air but not like it what was coming out of the line. My fan blows like hell when out of car hooked up. Blew crap all over the place and almost jumped out of my hand. But that amount of air is not coming through that first coil looking thing. The amount of air coming out would not blow a match out, but you can feel it. anyone know what this first (barrier thing) is or how to clean it? Both sides look to be clean.

tks
Jim

Edit: photo of what I'm talking about.

Now that I think about it, I believe that is part of the AC that gets cold and air blows across for cooling. Can this get clogged? I barley get air through it.

I believe that is the evaporator. Guess I'll be removing it to clean. Has to be clogged.

Are you sure all the vacumm doors are working in the ductwork ? Might just be one of the vacumm lines or motors is bad and not opening the fresh air inlet opening. If you put your head down near it, and work the controls from AC/ def/ heat, you should hear or see various ones opening and closing.

I watched them opening and closing through the heater coil opening. They look to be working ok. When I switch from heat to def. to vent, and AC It does change to the right vents, just doesn't blow hard at all. I removed the motor and hooked it up while out and man it blows like crazy. I removed the evaporator today and cleaned it out at the car wash, it was a little bit dirty but not bad. Re-installed but it still barely blows. I'm testing while in garage, maybe it'll pick up some when I drive it, forcing air into it. No axles on it yet so I'm going to wait a bit to finish testing it. From the amount of air coming off the fan when it is out I feel it should blow harder than it does. It won't blow a match out right in front of the vents.
