The 3.4 swap to car isant thaqt hard of a swap. You dont really need to modd anything except for the starter relocation. Other than that its as easy as putting the stock fiero heads on along with the rest of stock fiero top end onto the 3.4 block and drop it into nthe fiero. i have never done one so i cant attest to how east it is but judging from what i have reasherched its not hard.

I'm in the middle of doing one right now. it's as easy as it gets. But, ONLY YOU can determine what it will COST. I've spent Many many hours online tracking down rebuild parts, (mostly shopping on ebay, by far the cheapest, northern auto, or cp central) I have a 88 stick flywheel if you can't find one locally.

oh, & after you figure up all your parts & the cost of the" machine work", ADD another 30%. always works out that way.

The pushrod 3.4L engine swap is even easier than that! Putting the the stock Fiero heads on the 3.4L engine isn't necessary because the cast iron heads for the 3.4L and those for the Fiero 2.8L are identical.

just a word of warning.. I dont think you could rebuild a 3.4 for less than you could swap in a bigger motor for.

I'd forgotten about that 3.4L engine swap guide, timgray. Yours was an excellent idea to post the link to it here for outlawfiero17.

outlawfiero17, I relied on an earlier version of that succinct write-up for my own 3.4L engine swap. Accordingly, I think you'll find that reading it is an efficient way to answer many of your questions regarding your own 3.4L engine swap.

Titled, Fiero 3.4L F-Body Engine Conversion, the current version of this well-written article authored by fellow PFF member, crazyd, indexes its subject matter into 22 clearly labeled sections.

  1. Getting Started
  2. 3.4 Engine Choices
  3. Gaskets
  4. Mounting the 3.4 Engine On Its Stand
  5. Oil Filter Adapter
  6. Mounting the Flywheel/Flexplate
  7. Relocating the Starter: Drilling the Holes
  8. Tapping the Starter Holes and Mounting the Starter
  9. Exhaust Manifolds
  10. Bellhousing
  11. Block Chop
  12. Oil Pan
  13. Timing Cover
  14. Cleaning Gasket Surfaces
  15. Water Pump
  16. Harmonic Balancer
  17. Accessory Transfer
  18. Oil Pressure Sender and A/C Compressor
  19. Clutch
  20. Mounts
  21. Installing the Engine Back On the Cradle
  22. Setting the Ignition Timing
I like that write-up by crazyd because it still amounts to only 10 pages of hard copy, as opposed to the hundreds of pages of hard copy that another article on this forum has. Accordingly, I find the brevity of the former a huge plus, and I hope you will also.

Good luck to you with your 3.4L engine swap project!

If you are going to swap to a Automatic the part of the block to cut that nobody is clear about is simply one of the bellhousing mount wings. I.E. if you look at the cut where you have to relocate the starter, you need to duplicate that angle cut on the other side. It's to clear the transmission housing. It's really easy to do with a disc cutter.
