Who is the best for mounts for this conversion? Who makes a good dogbone mount? Do you have to mount the alternator in place of the power steering pump to use a dogbone or not? Thank you for your time.

There is a set of WCF mounts for sale in the mall for a good deal. They are good mounts and priced right. You can mount the Alt down low for a cleaner install but leaving it up top works also. If you want a plug and play low mount setup then look on FastFieros site. It is quailty made and well worth the price.

We've installed the WCF mounts and the Purplereigns 3800 mounts and both will work. With just a bit of messaging they will fit. However, if you are doing an auto swap and going with the later 4T65eHD trans, the only mounts that are available for this swap are the ones from WCF. As for low mounting the alternator; it makes for a neater installation. If you are doing a swap in a notchback the standard 3800 alternator mounting will work. In the GT there will be interference with the deck support unless you low mount or notch the deck support.

Swap mounts can be made at home very easily using tranny mounts from the older vans, modifying the GTP engine mount and building your own dog bone bracket out of steel plate. If you have a decent MIG welder you are set if not you could buy one for less then the cost of most pre made mounts and still have the mig when finished. Dan
What about running the dogbone? Run it on top or the bottom somewhere?
This depends on where you put the Alt. If it is low then you can use the stock GP DB bracket modified to make a upper DB mount. If the Alt is mounted up high in stock location then I suggest using a lower DB mount setup to keep the engine from moving. If you are running a manual trans then I suggest mounting the engine on four corners and also adding an addition DB setup. The last swap I did the Alt was left in the stock location so I use a 88 lateral link for the lower DB setup. Got this idea from the 4.9s guys as they use it on there swaps.

I only do the 5 mounts on extreme duty manual trans stuff. Most everything else is going to get a medium stiff rubber 4 point mount system (even my drag car).

Yeah, if anyone has photos of the firewall/low strut they would be appreciated. I am just about ready to fire up, and I have anguished over how to do it with the alternator in the stock location. Or even a description of how it's done would help.
Also, an earlier post to this thread seemed to indiacate that the lid doesn't have to be notched when using the WCF mounts in an SE. Did I get that right? I haven't installed the lid yet but I have prepared myself to remove the torque assy. from that side and cut a relief for the SC snout. If all that is not necessary, life just got better!! Thanks

Search the 4.9 swaps and you can find a picture of an 88 lateral link being used. I used this setup on the last 3800 swap I did. I welded a box on the cradle for one end and attached the other end to the alt tensioner with a grade 8 bolt. The DL springs will need to be removed to clear the SC but the DL will not clear the alt.
I just attach a mount to the diff cover on the automatics... On manuals I just run a angle mount off around where the stock motor mount is, and a mount on the front frame rail under the starter/where the ac compressor goes.

I don't know about the Astro van. But here is one that is off a 95 Pontiac Transport.
Before I cleaned it.
Now this is not my picture. But i did find them on a 93 Regal and they are the ones that I am going to use. They bolt to the Fiero's engine cradle and to the 3800's transmission. Factory parts from the junkyard.
Heres my version of the transport front engine mount on the last build. Front mount on the cradle was removed and a piece of angle was added. Included a pic of the my dawg bone relocation on the current build. The front engine mount is from WCF. Some angle iron and a heim joint it would be easy to add one on the firewall side front or middle of the block depending on your set up. Personal prefererence on trans mounts are rodneys poly and build from there. They're a little pricey but they are good quality.
I used this type of lower dog bone mount style on Norsac's build being the Alt was left up top. I ended up using an 88 lateral link like the 4.9 guys do and it worked out well. I think for manual installs this type of mount is needed no matter what other mounts you use.

FieroAddiction.com has some mounts? Any reviews on them?
I used a set on the last swap I did and also using a set on thebswap I am doing now. Both sets are made to mount the alt low to clear the Alt in the stock location. Overall the mounts where quality made but a little thin for my liking. Both sets where not made exactly the same and needed some modification to work but this is the case with all mounts made. John only makes them when he has the time as it is a side job.
i used west coast fiero mounts for my getrag/3.8 sc in 88gt. that set up made life very easy.i also used their center mount dog bone. i'd send pics but i don't know how (yet). good, well thought out hardware with nice clearences built in.
