Hello every body. I have been hanging out here for a few months now. I'm not new to fieros i have had a 1984SE 4spd and 2 88 formulas one red and one yellow,( i wish i nevre sold it) I just got a 1984 fiero SE for 260.00 bought it from a guy that said it has a bad head gasket. I have not got in to the motor yet. have been working on the body and cleaning the interior. i have look at differnt things on the motor and around the motor and have a few questions.
1. behind the motor on the firewall infront of the ecm i have 2 connecters that the wire looks like they got hot and melted. dose any one know what they got to. i was thinking about getting some lquided ele. tape to cover the wires that are showing. I know that is not the best fix. but i need to get this on the road 2. can i get a pic of the TV cable to the T.B.I. 3. some one cut the fan wires and put in a switch. i would like to take it back to stock and have the switch that way i can let the ecm control the fan, but still be able to turn the fan on as i see needed
How bad is the wiring ? is the insulation gone ? If it is I would run new wire, if not just get some good heat shield wrap on them to protect them.
I dont have a stock auto Fiero so cant help with the pic, unless I can fin a pic from one of my customers cars...hmmmm, I will look !
The fan is not controlled by the ECM untill the 87 model year. It is controlled by a "Fan Switch" sensor on the engine. It should not be difficult to get it working properly again, and there should be no need for the override switch if the cooling system is working properly.
thank you for the reply. yea the coating is down to the wire, and it is right at the connector that is why i was going to try and use the lquiled tape to insulate the wires, or if it was for the ac, i might just remove it

Which connector is it ? Is it the large main harness connector (c500) in the center of the firewall ? The liquid tape may be a temporary fix, but I would at least find a place you could cut the wire and slide some good heat shrink on there then re solder and heat shrink where you cut it.
There is a "factory fan override switch" in the Fiero.
Its ths A/C control. Turning on the air conditioning will engage the cooling fan, if I recall correctly. (my GT has ths fan grounded out and on all the time - A/C doesn't work either, so that's why I'm not exactly sure)

thank you every body. i did not thank of cutting the wire using heat shink then reparing the cut
those pics are what im needing thank you for your guys help

The fan is not controlled by the ECM untill the 87 model year. It is controlled by a "Fan Switch" sensor on the engine. It should not be difficult to get it working properly again, and there should be no need for the override switch if the cooling system is working properly.
The Coolant fan is controlled by the temp sensor on the engine on both the 4Cyl and the V6. The temp switch turns on the fan at 235 degrees and off again at 225.
IF you have A/C, the coolant fan, (and the Alternator/Coil blower motor), will turn on any time the A/C is selected. IF you have no A/C, the coolant fan is then ONLY controlled by the engine temp switch.
The coolant fan relay is located on the radiator support in front of the drivers side headlight and is activated by the engine temp switch or the A/C selector by grounding the relay coil. This makes it simple to add an "override" switch by splicing into the dark green/white stripe wire somewhere between the relay and the connector near the brake booster and connecting the other side of the switch to ground.
BTW: If your coolant fan runs all the time, check for a stuck relay, stuck temp switch or the DkGrn/Wh wire being grounded.
And Mike is correct in that there is no need for an override switch if the system is working properly.

i believe the bad wiring is the C500. going to try and find the wiring or at least pig tails. would i be better off trying to upgrade to the 85-88 wiring?

Trying to switch over to 85+ wiring would be alot of rewiring. You can relocate the C500 connector, but you will have to lengthen wires on the Engine harness side, Chasis side, or both. for swaps alot of people move the C500 toward the drivers side because there is enough wire to not have to change anything, but they are building a new engine harness so they can build it to match.
