Has anyone tried replacing the AC relay with one of those standard 30amp relay? If so how should it be wired. This is an 84 fiero I am working on.

Thanks
Mike

A - lt blue - 86
C - dk blue - 85
E - blk - 30
B - dk green - 87

But the stock relays should be available and have more weather safe connectors

The relay has the following wire colors:

Light blue
black
2 dark green wires.

The relay is being moved inside the cabin.

Thanks

Edited above post to a wiring diagram I found that is closer to the wire colors you have, but still not exactly the same. All the diagrams I have show these colors.

I see Mike edited his post... one of your dark green wires is actually dark blue... have a closer look. Mike is right about the different color wires to the pins, except that the relays aren't identical because the OEM A/C relay has an internal diode between the pins with the Lt Blu wire and the Dk Blu wire. Your standard 30 amp relay does not. You can buy a diode and solder it between the pins on the outside of the relay such that it will allow current to flow only from the Lt Blu wire to the Dk Blu wire and it will work just fine though.

You are right the wire is dark blue. I can actually purchase a relay with the diode built right in. Thanks guys for the information.

I am sure I will have many more questions as I am begining to replcae my wiring harness with a new painless one.
