Sorry for the crappy diagram, but i dont own a camera, so i have to use this, lol..

Anyway, im trying to hook up my new fuel pump to my assembly so i can finally finish up this repair. But im confused a bit about the wireing cause the new pump is different from the old pump.. Its a bosch fuel pump, Part #69222..

If you look at my wonderfully drawn diagram, you can see there wires coming into the top of the assembly, one black, one tan/white, and one pink.. with the black wire going to a little connector, and the tan/white & pink going into the little yellow plastic thing.

But under the cap, coming out of the little yellow plastic thing, i have a pink wire going to what i think is the gauge sender, and a white wire going into the pump.. Then a black wire coming from the pump, and going into the gauge sender.

Now the new fuel pump is a little different (see picture) instead of the wires plugging onto the little connectors on the pump, it has a computer style white clip, that the wires snap into, then the clip snaps into the top of the pump.. And the wires for the new pump are black and red..

While i know the pink wire is the gauge sender wire, and i dont need to do anything with that, but im confused as to the white wire coming in from the cap to the pump, and the black wire going from the pump to the sender, since the new pumps wires are black and red, im a little confused as to plug what into where for the new pump..

Thanks for your help..

P.S. I tried to get a Delco pump, but nobody carried that pump anymore..

The Tan/Whit on the Fiero is the positive feed to the pump, I would guess it goes to red on your new pump. Black is ground shared by the pump and gauge sender. Pink is gauge sender return.

Is there a way i can test to make sure the pump is working before i bolt eveything back up?

I was thinking that after i got the new pump installed, i could put the assembly back into the tank, then put my tank back under the car and lift it with my jack high enough so i can plug the 3 wire connector back in.. Then i could just turn the key to on to see if the pump primes right?

You could do that, or jump 12v to pin G on the ALDL port if your car is stock (no engine swaps).

yeah took the pump assembly and (gently) carried it over and layed it on the engine, then plugged in the connector and turned the key to on, and the pump started right up, so thats always a good thing, lol..

I hope i got the right sized fuel lines.. (i took a piece of old line to advanced with me) it was 3/8 size for two of the lines, and 1/4 for that little small one with the "pinch clip" on it..

So iv got the assembly put back in the tank, and new lines put on the tank ends, so now all i gotta do is put the tank back in and hook up the fuel lines, and change the fuel filter...

I'll post an update in a few hours..

my fuel gauge doesn't work in my 88 show car. I know for a fact it's the wiring. which wire on the gauge pod if for the fuel gauge?? and can I run a wire straight to that pink sender wire from the tank to fix the issues?

Thanks!!

my 86 GT v6 had this issue as well, my car sat in a field for 7 years though. I had to scrap the fuel pump and the sending unit was not making a good contact. if you get the sending unit out of the tank you will see the little copper arm that rides over a board that is about 2 in long and .375 in wide. it has a wire wound around it and acts as a potentiometer. i used some 600 sand paper and cleaned the contacts and it was fixed. Hope this helps, I dont have it back in the car as yet, just tested it manually so if ya want I could get some pictures if ya need.
