I put a used Muncie Getrag from an 87 Cimarron in my Formula, having a defect 3rd synchro. I bought Rodney's conversion kit.

I am in process for a 4.9 swap so I am wondering if it will be a good move to have the original MG2 rebuild to go with the 4.9.

This transmission has about 108k miles, and as far as I know, has never been molested. Previous owner is and old lady, do not laugh, it is a true story.

The only known problem is with the 3rd synchro.

4.9 ongoing project

Definitely rebuild it... or replace it if the cost of the rebuild is too high. As a frame of reference, ManTrans sells rebuilt HM282 transmissions for around $1000 shipped.
