Im having a problem with my clutch. When I hold the clutch in at a stop light after a while it will start to creep. I am thinking of replacing my slave and master cylinders. What my question is. The fluid is the original fluid (never been changed) the car has been sitting for a long while.
could changing the fluid help or should I go ahead and change the master and slave? I know that Rodney makes a nice slave, is there someone that makes a decent master?
Has anyone had good, long term luck with rebuilding? If so who makes a decent rebuild kit?
Thanks Dan

Hi,
Several year ago, I had the same trouble with my 87 GT V6.
The problem was the master cylinder. I brought it to a brake specialist shop and they rebuilt it perfectly. No problem since then.
I don't think the oil is responsible for your trouble.

Hope this helps

I forgot to tell you 2 things
1) it would be worth rebuilding your slave as well
2) check your clutch line. If there is a leak, it can create simila symptom as you have. If your line is in a bad shape, I strongly recomend The Fiero Store Stainless steel one

Hope this helps

If you can afford it, I would upgrade the slave to RD's new one - it has a twin seal piston and will last many years. I am not sure if you can get a rebuild kit for the Master.

I had the same problem with my 88GT that you describe a couple of weeks ago. I determined that it was my clutch master unit. The fluid was bypassing the piston seal and allowing the pressure to bleed down creeping the car forward unless I pumped it up. So, I found the prices for a rebuild kit were around $50 and a new one was only about 20 bucks more. So, if you figure in the rebuild time and making sure your cylendar is clean and a rust free surface, I figured it was faster just to put a new one in. The brand I got was Raybestos. Replaced it and works fine now. Got my new one off of Amazon.com of all places. Rockauto.com has a good assortment including Raybestos.

I bled the slave with a hand vacuum brake bleeder pump and it was fast. Make sure you use teflon tape on your bleeder threads so air doesn't get past the threads for vacuum bleeding.
