Is there a way to adjust the brake pedal travel on a 1986 GT. It has oversized front calipers and a C10 Blazer Master cylinder. There is plently of room under the pedal when the pedal is pushed down . It is solid not spongy. It seams to go up too far, about 4" above the gas pedal.

I haven't measured it but the brake pedal and clutch pedal are quite a bit higher than the gas pedal. If the brake is solid without too much travel you are doing ok IMHO.

There is no simple way like an adjustment rod as such. You effectively "adjusted" it higher with the new master cylinder. To get it lower you would need to use another master cylinder like a '93 S10 Blazer (mini-blazer) 2 wheel drive MC. Or even going back to the stock Fiero MC which some people say is a bit too low with the bigger brake options out there. Some people like the stock Fiero MC just fine..

I'm not sure what the problem is. Is it that the pedal moves to far before the brakes engage, or that the starting point is too high compared to your gas pedal. If the 2nd problem, that's just the way they are. If the first, well, you didn't say any thing about your rear brakes. Miss-adjusted parking brakes can cause long pedal travel.

How do you adjust the parking brake cable to improve travel? That is probably the problem since I never did that.

Well, actually, both the cable and the caliper can be adjusted. The cable is adjusted so that it's tight when the parking brake is not engaged, but not tight enough to pull the levers on the calipers off their stops.
For adjusting the calipers themselves, there is a procedure here. There is another procedure in the Ogre's cave.

The procedure you quote from Carquest is if your pedal is not high enough. That's not what groble's problem is.

The Fiero is what it is and the Caddy is what it is - you can not compare the 2 cars (there is years and technology differences).

If the Fiero is stopping correctly, than that is all she wrote (unless you go back to the stock configuration, but you probably will not gain anything).

Thanks TopNotch. I adjusted the parking brake cables and the pedal is great. Just like it should be. You would think that the people at Midas and Firestone would have known, that but they didn't. Now I do. It was really simple to do.
Thanks again.

Make sure the rear brakes aren't dragging now.

I checked that. They are fine. I did this with the wheels off and can easilly turn the rotors by hand.
