2 things tonight, hope you can help.

1) what do you all reccomend for lubing window tracks?

2) can someone PLEASE TEACH me how to use SEARCH......every time I try all I get is lots & lots of UN-RELATED responses.. Is there some TRICK that this novice
can learn?
For instance, #1 above....... I asked 'window track lube' and I got many pages of replies about anything BUT windows.?????

Thanx

pop i havent mastered the art of the search with relevant stuff unless you get lucky in your choice of words, like all searches with computers sometimes its a crap shoot ,i hope somone shows me as well

if you have lithium grease for the mechanisms and gear use it ,if not regular old grease for bearings will suffice but dont overdo it or you will have a mess, silicon spray for anything else ,are you battleing the slow window monster ?

Are you searching through subject/username or entire thread? Sometimes I have to sort through a lot of responses too but I can generally find what I'm looking for.

If you have the inner and outer skins off your doors, clean your window tracks with brake cleaner and use fresh lubricant. I didn't use grease on mine, but instead sprayed everything generously with silicone lubricant. It's been working fine so far.
Edit: Forgot to add -- when you search for a phrase instead of a single word, put it in quotes, for example, "window lubricant". If you don't use quotes, it will find every message with either window or lubricant in it. One of the bad things about this forum's search is that it removes words like "a", "the", etc. Sometimes those words are significant, and I wish Cliff would make it possible to include them in searches. For example, if someone named is Fiero "The Car", and you wanted to find messages about it, you would want to search for "The Car". But this forum's search would drop "the" and only search for "car".

The verticle track should be removed & cleaned spotless,, you can leave the horizontal track in frame and clean it very good .I used a claw pick up and screw driver with cloth on end to clean horizontal track...I used wheel bearing grease ,,but a lighter grease would be preferable ,, the secrete seems to be CLEAN the tracks,,my verticle track is a bit tight (to avoid rattles) but the window goes up or down in 5 to 7 seconds,,,,,,about 5 seconds if I,m moving on the highway of life,,I have a powerful battery ,,sure that helps
Before I installed DIY stu excellent wipes & clean & lube it was 12 to 14 seconds..

Lubri plate(white grease) would be the best lube, for a window track, but few would have it,,or buy it just for this.. long term you should have a light grease ,,grease eats dirt better than oil coating,,oil is better short term and if you clean track every 4 years...

White lithium grease is the most common lube used on window tracks cause is won't easily wash off.

What ever you do don't get grease on your dew wipes. I did when ever I rolled up the window it would leave a nice smear up the window.
