EDIT: I said the hole was in the head, it's in the block below the head.

I used one in my Fiero and yes, everything swaps. But you do have to check one thing.

Below the right head (looking from the front), there is a coolant bypass hole that mates to the timing cover. On some D engines, that hole is dished and the front timing cover won't seal. Some people have it filled in on the timing cover, tapped and closed the block and others figure out a workable gasket.

On mine (new crate motor) , block was flat so it sealed fine.

I have pics somewhere of the location. I will look for them.

I should clarify something. The bypass isn't used on the D engine in the U vans so that spot is often blocked on the block.. That leaves a gap between the Fiero cover and the block and it leaks really bad. There are solutions but just you want to make sure you cover this items before you install the engine.

Frankly, of the 5 D engines I've seen all have the hole in the block and the Fiero cover fits nicely without any changes. My D crate engine had the U-van timing cover and it just covered the hole in the block. It worked out for me without any changes.

I marked the spot on the D cover that seals that hole. You can see there is no passage there.
