will a 235-40-18 work on a 87 gt.? rim size 18x 7.5 or do I need to stay with a 225-40-18

I ran 245/45/18s with room to spare on a FWD offset rim (like 35-40mm iirc).

on a stock 88 coupe.

245/40/18's on 7.5" rims sitting on the rear of my car right now.

An 8" wheel would be a better choice.
