Hello All, having issues tracking a starting problem. Originally I thought the fuel pump to be bad, as it was not pressurizing, however, when direct current is applied the fuel pump fires, replaced the relay, still nothing when using the key, found a fusible link that was shot and repaired that as well, still no pressure, noticed that the "check engine light" does not come on, which I am told, is a problem with the ECM. My question, how do I check to see if the ECM is good or bad, and might there be another culprit that i should look at as well. Thanks for your help MRQ

Here are few things I would check, starting with the easier items.
More specific info. if the car year and engine was known. Will guess that the battery is in good shape. The ECM usually has fuse links and a fuse in the power supply circuit. The fuel pump circuit is protected by a fuse too. If the Check Engine Light does not light with the ignition key on, check for a bad bulb. No need for a trip to the parts store, just borrow another dash bulb for testing. As I remember, only 4 to 5 screws to get to the dash bulbs.
You are on the right path, as the ECM does control the fuel pump relay. A volt meter or test lamp would be a handy tool for testing. Other info. on the car would be helpful, when did it last run, how many miles, and any other recent repairs.

On any 85 and up, check CE lightbulb, check ECM fuse. The main power feed to the ECM comes off the lower of the two terminals on the main power distribution junction. It's an orange wire and has a weatherpak connector just like the O2 sensor does. The usual culprit is corrosion in the ring terminal on the orange wire and/or a bad connection on the weather pak connector. They're both in the elements, subject to corrosion over the years.
