My car has started to pop when i accelerate, I beleive it is fireing back throught the throttle body. I just changed the plugs and checked compresion in all four cylinders (87 2.5), I changed the o2 sensor also. All cylinders were above 115 lbs. It has sat 2.5 years. I put all new fuel in when i started to drive it. The fuel pump is under 3 years old (replaced right befor I quite driving it). It did overheat a little when i first started to drive cuz it had a bad relay. Anyone have an idea the only thing I can think of is plug wires maybe.
Thanks

Its not real steady some times it wont do it at all. I just got back from driving it and that was the first time. (it was to dark to start looking at it) If I accelerate real slow it wont do it at all.

It was idling high but I think it was only cuz I put a different battery in, and the ecm was reset. it was idling at almost 3000rpm not sure if that helps it was idling steading. when in drive at stops it idles steadly and about 1100 rpm

no distributer so i didn't mess with timeing it had a new ICM and ECm about 3 years ago tho. I haven't looked to hard for vacumm leak I checked the MAP sensor and all the ones from the canister and the egr those are the only ones I realy no of and they were all hooked up when i got back from the drive. I have no way to check fuel pressure but the pump is only 3 years old and I have all new ss lines and and a new filter on it and the pump primes a nice loud mmmmmmmmmm.

ha ha ha i just noticed you said 87 , no dist , if you replaced the filter that was where i was going with the pressure ,what about a check engine light ? i still would check for vaccum leaks first ,tps plugged in good ?

have you inspected the plug wires good and make sure they are not touching anything ,if they burned one time or rubbed they can have a spot where the spark can jump to instead of the plug

I will check the TPS in the moring I beleive it will turn out OK. As far engine light it did come on but it turned back off and was never on when it was poping. I checked for codes but just got a Blink.....blinkblink which is 12 and I beleive thats OK.

you should have a random misfire code too ,but if the cec didnt stay lit its not going to relay the source of the problem..probably, if you have made sure there are no vac leaks and everything is plugged in i would condemn the plug wires, especially if you find anything weird on the wires ,
replace EGR. Especial if you or anyone use a aftermarket EGR.

it sounds like you have an exhaust leak. A good way to find if you have an exhaust leak it so do the seafoam treatment and have someone rev it while you watch the headers and all the joints in the exhaust piping. If you see smoke coming out of the pipes somewhere, there's a leak.
mine does this when you go to shift. i think it sounds pretty mean. i have never heard it from the back because i dont let anyone drive my car but my friends say it sounds like an SRT4.

Backfire (thru the throttle body) on acceleration is a symtom of a lean condition. Check the EGR as Ogre said. If that isn't it then I would suspect a dirty injector. Very common after sitting for years. Stale gas varnishes in the pintle and you get a poor spray pattern and poor atomization at low air flows. Also check for a worn throtle shaft and an air leak there.

I think It turned out to be a bad blug wire I was looked at them this moring and one was sitting on the exhaust manifold and it melted so bare wire was showing I haven't driven it very much but it didn't do it on the way back from the parts store but its only like a mile. Thanks guys.
