what shift knobs work on the fiero store short shifter. I wanted something that would actually screw on there and not one of those cheap universal things. Would a hurst T handle screw on? What are you guys with this shifter using? Thanks

Did I post this in the wrong forum? I thought this was a common shifter. I know it doesn't seem like an emergency but I can't keep driving without a knob.

Threads on a stock fiero shift handle are m16x1.5. As far as I know there is not much out there in that size. Knowing it though may help you find something. I'm kind of partial to the stock non-leather one though. I have no idea what fits the fierostore one. I wen't with Rodney's competition short throw.

I run an aftermarket aluminum shifter knob. It started life as more a generic one for a smaller diameter shaft and I drilled/tapped it for the proper fiero threads.

One thing to keep in mind, the stock fiero knob has the threads for the shifter shaft way up close to the top and most aftermarket ones I have come across have them down low or in the middle. So just installing them usually results in a taller knob location and requires a short shifter mod to return it to stock height or lower.

I am using a knob from a seller on Ebay (doesn't seem to be there anymore) that has a Fiero logo on it and uses a hex set screw to hold it on.

I'm wondering if a third gen firebird or camaro 5 speed shift knob would work. I was hoping for something like a hurst shifter or something. I want to stay away from the knobs that use a hex screw to hold them in because it seems to always work itself loose. I wanted something that would screw on and stay put. What else do I have to choose from?

I have seen a couple of the hurst t-handles on fieros, but I assume there were drilled and retapped for the proper pattern.

Here is the best pic I have for mine (again tapped for the proper fiero threads).

My understanding is they are the same thread. Can't be positive as I have never used one though.

I will try to dig out my hurst shift knob for my firebird and see if it fits in the fiero. It is one that actually screws on to the shifter, not a universal. I wonder why I can't find anything that'll just screw on? I guess it's cause the fiero is so old.

Here is a vintage Hurst knob a friend of mine gave me, I just installed on my short shifter on Saturday.

I used a piece of 5/8 rod cut to the length I wanted my shifter height to be and turned the end down on the lathe and threaded it for 3/8-16 to fit the knob threads. I cut off the old curved short shifter that the previous owner had installed and welded my new straight shift in place.
