Okay, here's the deal. There's a local guy here that owns a '87 Zimmer Quicksilver. If you don't know what they are, they are the Fieros that Zimmer Motorcars turned into this...
Also as you may know, these were the only Fieros that received some sort of power steering.
Here's the deal. Apparently I didn't know it with these cars but there is no key for the decklid. The little middle part in the photo above is an emblem and there is no key lock there. The owner met me at a car show after seeing my Fiero and inquired about how to open the decklid because it seems that the only way you can open it is with the trunk popper, but he's told me that also has now gone out and he can no longer pop the decklid open to service anything. I responded that I figured there was a way to jump the popper switch, but I wasn't sure if that was true or how to. I've read through searching that someone has said that you can 'jump' the popper switch and it will allow it to activate, but I'm not sure if that's true or how to do that. I'm guessing by using a paper clip or needle nose pliers on two pins?
This weekend if everything goes okay the owner has agreed to let me drive the car (he rarely ever drives it), which should be exciting as I'm wanting to know what it's like to drive a Fiero with power steering.

Yea of course you can jump the wires. It would be easier if you knew the colors of the wires. I dont know but someone may have a manual handy. I think it's only one wire if I remember right, the other is the metal of the mechinism grounded.

Actually, hold up. Check this out. Under the drivers side rear wheel well, where the radiator pipe connects to the water pipe runner there (may) be a white/tan wire that runs from the trunk up to the ECM port hole. That just might be the one. Apply battery + to that and maybe...

See cave. electric, gen, trunk release or safety. read bottom
Switch or relay normally is bad. Plus Stick uses e brake so it won't open the trunk when drive. So if Ebrake light don't work, trunk don't work. Auto use park same thing but not usually a problem. Solenoid usually is good but it grounds thru the lach. If something got caught then block ground and jump won't work.

It is possible that the solenoid is just bad and applying electrical power to it wont work. I have a F40 kit car that had that problem. I drilled a hole in the back by the trunk latch and stuck a long thin screw driver in, turned it to the right and it opened. You might be able to get access behind the emblem on the back.
lso see if you can get a long screwdriver between the bumper and the deck lid. Look at your own car to measur the exact location of the latch. With the key lock non existant the screwdriver fits in the hole in the latch. Turn clockwise and it opens.

The relay is (as noted in Ogre's Cave) immediately above the driver's right shin. On my 86s they are black square ones with a metal clip that holds them to the dash frame.. Again on my 86s there is a 3 wire plug on the relay. The wires are: Yellow with Blk Stripe, Brown with black stripe, and Black with white stripe. If you push the button on the dash and and hear a faint clicking under the dash then the relay is PROBABLY good. If you don't hear the clicking under the dash then either the relay or the switch is bad. If it clicks under the dash, have some one lift up gently on the deck lid lip while you are pushing the button on the dash. It could be that solenoid at the latch isn't making good contact with the loop so it's not grounded properly. If it opens this way then use some steel wool to shine the contact area on the loop.
Good luck
