I've heard (read) other forum members mention that they went to a larger than stock oil filter on their 2.8's and was wondering what cross-reference vehicle they look up for the part number? I'd like to go to a larger size but don't know what to ask for. I'm currently using K&N so anybody that know's the stock number for the larger K&N size that will fit are welcome to chime in! Thanks!

It's either the AC Delco P51 or 52; but, there should be a note about it in the archives.

Yep they work great. I switched over several years ago to the bigger one. Went to the Pontiac dealer and told the parts guy I wanted a Delco Pxx for an 86 Fiero 2.8
He said, " You want the big one?" So he also knew.

The stock one is no bigger than the one on my Cub cadet.

PF47 is the short one, and PF52 is the long one, using AC Delco part numbers.

AC Delco PF52 and Purolator L24011 are the two part numbers I remember offhand, for the larger oil filter. BTW, they fit both the Duke and the 2.8 V6.

24011 seconded.

I run them on both my 2.5 and 2.8 cars, as well as a 3400 Aztek.

When I bought the most recent one (for the Aztek) the sales guy assured me that it was not the correct filter and that it would damage my engine.

I've been running "talls" on the Aztek at least the last 55k miles and its in the mid-130k range now.

Just have them cross reference the PF52 OR L21044 to the K&N stuff.

Ditch the K&N, always run an AC Delco filter.

I picked up a couple PF52's this morning. Here are the numbers for the long filters:

AC Delco or Motorcraft: PF52
STP: S3980
Fram: 3980
Fram Toughguard: TG3980
Mobil 1: M1-201
K & N: HP-2001
Bosch: 3430
Purolator: L24011

Or get a NAPA filter. They're WIX filters in disguise. Unfortunately I don't know the cross reference for the long filter either. I change the oil every 2000 miles, or twice a year, so I think I can get away with the shorter ones. What bugs me is that I could get the longer ones for the same price.

Several people told me WIX are the best filters, so I try to get them whenever possible, but when there is an "oil change special" at Kragen, or Autozone I'll take whatever filter comes with it.

Just my opinion for my .02 worth....AC Delco, like PPG is highly overrated and way overpriced. You can get just as good (or better) for 1/2 the price. ie/ my $90 AC module quit in 2 weeks with no warranty. My Autozones ran years for $25 @, lifetime warranty. Module for one of my Corvettes was no good out of the box. I got an Accel.
