Not a good sign. Is the an OEM antenna? These are the ones whose base is a hex shape. These antennas thread on to a stud mounted just below the fender. I have not had that problem, but if you can't get it starting to thread off you may have to take the top of the fender free to get access to the antenna base. Maybe there you will able to katch on to something to get the antenna off.

You are turning the correct way, right? Just thought I'd throw that in

It is broken off at the hex base alright and I believe it to be OEM. Only the hex part at the bottom of the antenna mast remains. I don’t have a picture handy but I think the words will do. I was about to order a replacement from The Fiero Store but I am thinking that maybe I should order a new base while I’m at it. So, the question now is if the stud is spinning, is that repairable or must I replace the base. I’m pretty sure that I read that you can get to it by removing the screws from the top of the fender and pulling it back but can I do that with the antenna hex head still in place. The photo of the antenna base at The Fiero Store site makes it look like the base screws onto the structure of the car. If that is the case, it seems that I won’t be able to pull back the fender till the antenna hex head and outer base have been removed. I could spend some time with a dremel carefully grinding away enough of the hex head to get it off I guess. I’m just guessing that once I get that loose, the remaining parts outside the fender come right off. Of course, I’d love someone to tell me that all I have to do I pull the fender back, grab the stud and remove the old mast hex head. I have a feeling that that isn’t going to happen.

On the OEM antenna base, is the threaded stud a separate part of the base which can be removed ?
When I was removing my antenna, the stud sheared off, leaving about 1/8 inch of threads left. Other then replacing the base, what are the other options for repair ?

You should be able to pull the fender loose at the top and all along the the fender well. You may be able to lift it up over the antenna hex part. The hex part is screwed on a stud mounted in the base. There are two bolts holding the aluminum base to the car. Pull those two screws out and you can at least have it free as far as the antenna cord will allow. Then try to take the hex base off. Maybe you will have better luck.
You may want to try this before ordering a new one from the FS. I believe the antenna cord is mounted permanently in to the base. If you replace the base you will need to thread the new antenna cord in to the passenger compartment.

mount is bolted to the space frame under the fender, cable goes threw a grommit hole in frame into the dash area. you can try to snap your anntena off. then just buy a cheap rubber flex anntena from autozone for $5 to $6 bucks. get a new mount from fiero store. i have replaced all three of my fiero;s this way .good luck

I have a good factory base and coaxial cable you can have for the cost of shipping and a beer when I am in B.R. next time. I thought my original one was fritzed but it turned out to be an adapter for a P.O.S. shorty antenna the previous owner had slapped on.
Lemme know,

Edited for the beer
