With Rockcrawl out of business I am having to build my own brackets for 12" rotor upgrade and 88 calipers on an 86 GT. What I need to know is what is the minimun thickness that should be used for this? I is really hard to judge this from pics on the net. Please let me know what you have used for this upgrade or similar. thank you dustin

I am building my own brackets for the 12" rotors on the 88. The backside of the rotor (where it rests against the hub) to the rear wear surface of the rotor is about .360" difference between a stock 88 rotor (used) and a brand new corvette rotor... so 3/8" bracket thickness will have the caliper positions on its sliders very close to the stock position.
For your application, I would suggest doing the same measurement. You want it thin enough to fit and keep the proper caliper to slider orientation, but thick enough to not deflect.
On the 88's you do not need the half moon shape to clear the spindle, a simple peice of 2x3/8" bar stock available at Lowes works and just needs drilled and cut to length.

That was just a trial for fit. I can weld pretty good, i was just in a hurry.. no worries there..... I welcome any suggestions as long as they are productive, not rude..... There seems to be a bit of arrogance on here at times....I would just like some real opinions and help if any one can offer it. I am having two pieces stamped from 3/8" steel and the holes stamped as well. I believe that Rockcrawl uses 5/16" for the upgrade that I am doing. He is unavailable now so I am on my own..... I DO NOT want to have any problems and want to do it right. I want this to last. So, suggest away man. thanks

Sorry, to say so, but that part is pretty ugly and the welding looks, well.... dangerous.
Are you sure you really want to count on that working well and stopping your car?
I have a suggestion, if you want it.

David

Well, after opting to have my brackets made instead of making them, I am quite happy with what I got from the fab shop. These are 3/8" thick and should hold up the to upgrade. The 1/2" holes are punched and the others are drilled and tapped. Thanks for the advice.... Dustin
edited for pic...oops..
