i have a couple of places on my rocker panels that need to be filled in. they are not cracked or anything it's just a couple of gashes where the bottom of my door has rubbed against them over time. what materials would be good to use on the rocker panels for filling in gashes and such...also, when people refer to using "filler" while doing body work, does it generally refer to one certain product or does it just depend on what you are working with. for example, when you use "filler" working with fiberglass, would that be the same "filler" used in working on a metal car. reason i ask is b/c i've read many threads where people have installed scoops in their fiberglass hoods and after they lay the matt and resin, they always use "filler" over that and was just wondering what that was. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Search is a good tool for that. You should be able to find a lot about doing body work.

Basically, You need to know what the body panels are made of. That will dictate what products you use.
Just adding fiberglass to a body part will not work. The fiero, technically, does not have fiberglass panels. It has SMC (closest to Fiberglass), RRIM (Urethane), RIM (Urethane), TPO (olefin), etc...
The rocker panels are TPO plastic. Sanding them smooth would be your best bet. Start at somewhere like 80 grit and go up to 600 and see if that makes them look better. To "fix" them you need to use a TPO safe adhesive/filler product. Those are pricey.

Filler is a generic term. there are many different types of fillers. The ones you would normally hear about are usually a polyester based two part product (filler and a cream hardener).
Bondo(TM) is a company that makes fillers. Evercoat is another.
Some fillers are impregnated with fiberglass (or other materials) strands for adding strength to the filler. The most common is long strand or short strand.
Fillers should never be used in heavy, thick coats. (I prefer to not use any at all, I add more fiber glass before I add more filler.)
Strand impregnated filler can be thicker, but not advisable.
Light and medium body filler should not be used with fiber glass, it will work, but is less desirable.
Strand impregnated filler is the best filler to use on fiberglass.
I am partial to Evercoat(TM) "Kitty Hair" long strand or short strand fillers.
