If you can find one the Crane H272 is a great choice.
Crane shut down a while ago so the only place to find one would be from a place that already had one in stock.

Crower makes a cam similar to the Crane. It is their "Performance Level 4" cam.
HI-DRAULIC HAULER / Performance Level 4 - Strong mid-range and top end
torque and horsepower.
RPM Power Range: 2200 to 6200 / Redline: 6500
Part Number: 03050

Just be aware (and maybe you are already) that there is no production crank with a long enough throw which by itself would transform your GT engine from a 2.8L into a 3.4L. However, with standard overbores, that crank can safely transform your 2.8L into a 3.1L or a 3.2L.

By the way, months earlier I tried obtaining an H-272-2 Crane cam for the pushrod 60o V6 from two major mail order houses (Summit Racing and Jeg's), but with no success. Unlike Crane, however, Crower Cams still is in business, and thus any Crower cam like the one Oreif suggests should be easier to find.

Just get a 3.4L block, the 2.8 is weak to start with, you over bore that far and it will be worse. Not even worth the time. just start with a 3.4

Yup.

Problem is, it seems they are getting rare. But that is actually the easiest and best way to go that route.

Boring a 2.8 to 3.4 will give you a very weak block.

Not trying to highjack your post, but can you put in an upgraded cam w/out changing ECM? We are in the process of rebuilding a 3.4 to put in my son's '87 GT and would like to put a better than stock cam in, but not wanting to switch to the 7730 ECM at this point.

Thanks!

You can still keep the original ECM and have it tuned/reprogrammed after you modify the engine.
