I tried the search function for this specific question and came up with a whole lot, but not a direct answer!
I should have the body where I want it by Fall on my "new" 87 GT, at least in what I'm calling version 1.0. (There will be more later.) With the repaint and cleaner looks, I feel like the natural next step would be to make it go faster!
Since 2000 every car I have purchased was a manual transmission. Unfortunately my 87 is not.
Since I autoX, I'd prefer a manual transmission. (I'll know more if I ended up racing this weekend.)
How difficult / expensive is it to swap a 5 speed if doing a 3800 SC swap? I've read tha auto is really the way to go if I want to avoid future diffiulties, but my concern is that I'll end up ticked off at the lack of gears to bang through.
Anyone who has performed this swap please chime in! I know its been done, but how much extra time / money would it cost along with the motor swap? Will converting to manual create further headaches during the swap?

I used to think the same thing about my 3800sc with the stock auto transmission. I recently went to a lapping day as a shakedown for our rally cars. There were some other track cars and I got the chance to try an RX8 track car. That was my first time driving a rotary engine and soon realized that you relied totally on brakes because there is no compression when shifting down. So I'm thinking that I just need big brakes and I should be able to autocross the Fiero.
I did the 5 speed when I first did my L67 swap. The Flywheel and clutch that will hold up is your biggest expense. You would need the manual pedal assembly, master and slave with the line, Shifter assembly and cables, trans and axles, and some minor rewiring.
I just swapped mine to the 4T65E-HD mainly because the 5 speed gear ratio did not work well with the L67, It was very annoying. It was more like having a 4 speed + a granny gear like the old trucks.
