This is a Getrag out of an 88 GT with about 90k miles on it. The clutch was almost new. It didn't seem to slip and it seemed pretty clean when pulled. What's causing the bell housing to turn black? Here's the pic:

previous clutch plate dust, hence the "new plate "

Maybe no dust cover? and road debrie, rear main seal leak?

Black dust like that wouldn't surprise me after 90K. The wetness toward the bottom may be worth investigating. Like Revin said; rear main seal, no inspection plate. May also have a leaking bad cam cover, but I think things would be a lot more wet if that were the case.

I guess I'll put a leak stopper additive in (like Lucas) when I change the fluid. Do I need differential additive as well?

I woul say dust mixed with oil. rear main seal or input shaft seal on the tranny likely leakers, but I have see a throwout bearing shoot it's grease load all over and make a nice paste with the dust.
