My Fiero has a MPH speedo but the temp gauge ranges from 40-120 so I'm guessing its in Celsius. The speedo and tach (which doesn't work) are not centered so I'm guessing they might have been spliced in or something. That makes me wonder it the odometer shows miles or kilometers and what the mileage might really be. Would it really matter what the actual mileage is if I plan on refurbishing just about everything on the car anyways?

drive at 60 mph for one minute and see if the odometer moves one mile. if it does, its calibrated for miles.

That would depend on your local and federal laws.
I have no idea about it for MI, but call you local DMV and ask. They will have the answers.

usually, it requires you to add the mileage onto your door vehicle plate before you swap out the speedometer and a new title reflecting it. If it is KPH, I guess you would have to do some math... but I admit, I don't know what MI requires.

You can circumvent the laws and just swap it out. When the title becomes an issue (from selling it or something), just tell them (buyer) it is not the actual mileage. As long as you divulge the correct mileage and let them know what the odometer reads is incorrect, it really won't matter. The title will then just reflect the mileage as being "NOT ACTUAL MILEAGE - WARNING - ODOMETER DISCREPANCY." There is no punishment. it becomes a buyer beware situation.

Canadian issue cars have dual readings. Kms in large letters, Mph in small letters. The calibration is the same.

Well actually when I bough mine a few weeks ago it came with:
1. A maple syrup dispenser in the dash,
2. Beer holders complete with cooling unit
3. An endless supply of Canadian back-bacon in the trunk
4. An igloo building manual with a map to Niagara Falls
5. A beaver chauffer!!!!!!!!

Funny though...no Maple Leaf on the speedo....although I don't know how you'd fit a hockey player in there?

Pretty nice EH?

Don't forget those little whistle things up front to keep the deer and beavers off the road.

IT would be interesting for someone to put together a photothread showing All of the vaiations of speedo's and Tachs for each model/year of Fiero.

That's a cool idea. Does anybody have some images of the different gauges for the various models/model years?

Here's a bit of a comparison between the 84 style gauges (85MPH/Canadian) and the 87 GT gauges (120MPH/American)

84 Coupe METRIC --------------------

87 GT IMPERIAL ----------------------
