I'm buying some things off of Fierostore.com and I was just looking through their catalog and I got looking at swaybars and polyurethane mounts.

I know for a fact that my engine mount are shot, I was planing on replacing them soon anyways but I was wondering if anyone had good or bad things to say about polyurethane mounts. My Fiero is a daily driver, I don't really kick the crap out of it or anything (nor is it very fast as it is a mostly stock 2.8 '85) but if they offer some advantages over the rubber mounts then I'm in.

The same thing go's for the sway bar. I've noticed that if I take a turn at a decent speed the car feels like the frame is torquing a bit. It's not a huge issue to me but you know, for a couple hundred bucks I'd slap a sway bar on it if it would change the feel of driving noticeably.

any input?

the rear a-arms & the cradle mounts are the most important ones. they make a big difference
a rear sway bar does make a nice difference as well. Tho, I would suggest new struts over a sway bar.
tho, I will say - I really like how my Fiero feels with a stock front Fiero sway bar mounted on the rear. It is a cheap alternative. and not to tough to do.

I haven't used urethane engine/tranny mounts, so can't comment on that. However, I will say that on an '84-87 Fiero, upgrading to front/rear sway bars is definitely worth it. If you have the cash, get the 1" front bar and the 7/8" rear bar.

Noticed a HUGE difference in handling after I added the Herb Adams rear sway bar. I was so impressed that I added an ADDCO rear bar to my other Fiero. This time the handling was way off with oversteer and was corrected only when I added the front ADDCO sway bar. So there's the formula. Use the Fiero Store or Herb Adams sway bar and you're in business or install the two ADDCO bars that are obviously made to be used only in pairs. The poly suspension arm bushings also help but with poly all around, handling will be better but the ride wil be harder. This is especialy so with KYB struts and shocks. I know because I have everything mentioned above on my 87GT. GREAT handling but hard ride.

what about the polyurethane dog bone? it's cheaper than the Rubber but is it junk or is it a good buy?

Edit:
Oh and how does polyurethane stand up to the valve covers leaking oil on them?

Polt engine mounts will last forever and keep your motor sitting where it belongs, but you will feel the engine in the car. It doesnt bother me, but I know others dont like it. Poly suspension makes a HUGE differance, keeps everything tight. I used the front swaybar on rear and it feels good, I might use a bigger one up front later, but I dont think I really need to.

I have been installing poly on just about every vehicle that I have owned in the past. Mustangs to Fieros. The difference in a poly job done right and a rubber job done right is incredible. I always reccommend it. And an added rear swaybar on our little Fieros is a very welcome addition to the equation. Do both. You will be happy. I highly reccommend that you buy extra poly grease for anything that you are swapping out. Never enough poly grease is my saying. I have had the poly squeaks in the past. It is hard to get rid of once it starts. But, if you really grease the shat out of it all, you will never have a problem. The grease is the key to happy poly.

Do you think the Cradle mount bushing kit, Part #57502 at http://www.fierostore.com/P...rowse.aspx?d=318&p=1 is a good idea or a waste of time?

I have the Fiero store rear sway bar and .... WOW. 50-60mph around a 90° turn is fun. No more of that twisting that I also felt that you described.... I also have poly on all of the suspension parts. It's a very nice tight bounce where the other rubber - 20 year old though- sagged a little....

Not sure on the motor mounts. I just installed my new engine but haven't the chance to fire it up yet.... Definitely do research on those. My new ones, to get the motor straight on the frame instead of the 5° that it was off, I drilled new holes.... Very disappointing. Good quality though. Having an issue setting the dogbone too because of the stiffness.

I tried a different vendor - Rodney - and I ordered the adjustable one from him today. Hope it works.

I have an 88GT

Exactly what every man wants.

I just got my total poly kit form the fiero store, not installed yet but I'm hoping for the best. Wish me luck.

Hey Shill, excellent catch about the twenty year old rubber. LMAO!

Just a reccomendation, but I would spray down every bolt and nut on your ride with PB Blaster or something better. Do it every other day for a week or two. Will make your bushing experience much, much better. Hit me up if you have any issues.

doing the poly mounts and suspension on my car made a huge diferance instead of wandering all over the road it drove like a slotcar
just use extra grese, and doing the motor mounts will make it a bit louder in the cab.
