So, the bolt that goes through the lower alternator bracket and right side of the engine support bracket (front hoop) is missing. Looks like it just plain wasn't put in. Now I'm having a little trouble getting the support to line up with the hole in the block. Everything appears undamaged, but anyone who could tell me what bolt, washers, etc. to use and best way to align things, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, was going to replace dogbone bushings, but it seems slightly off-goes " \" instead of " I ".
Thanks, Johny

Raise the engine a little bit to help you align the bolt holes. A bottle jack underneath the harmonic balancer pully.

But what about the bolt? Is it the same thread size, length, etc. as the other bolt in the alt. bracket? Or is the one on the other side of the support bracket (hoop) different, and I should be trying to match this? Lat thing I want to do is use the wrong part or too weak a bolt, and cause more problems because I snap a bolt in the block. Also, I'd been trying a floor jack with a 2x4 under the pan, so I'll try the bottle jack under the balancer trick in the morning.

the lower bolt has(I believe) a 15 MM Head, is special for the alternator.( because if it even a little to small in diameter, the alternator will try to twist when you tighten the belt) causting the belt to scream & wear out pretty quick.

Okay, I figured a 15 mm head, but I'm talking about the threaded part. Also, this bolt has not been present since having the car, and the belt never squealed. The original problem was the missing bolt allows the '84 duke and the front support bracket (engine mount hoop) to move around, causing the hoop to dent or gouge the oil filter.

I remember someone posting about a misalignment causing their belt to squeal once. Maybe a washer or shim will do the trick. I am including some pictures from my Duke rebuild. I tried to pick out any that show the alternator bracket. I hope it helps.

Can't use bottle jack-balancer is dead above cradle. Jack under pan give some lift, but still a little off-out of ideas.

Thanks Lou6t4gto-it was in fact 10mm/1.5. Local O'reilly's, $1.94 incl. tax. Had to settle for 17mm instead of 15mm bolt head, but perfect length. Took forever to line up-too high, too low, etc.--Got it now, though. Lots of clearance between support bracket and oil filter now. Thanks to everyone who offered help.
