well...went to the local parts store to pick up a map sensor...well didn't have enough $$ until tomorrow when i get paid. BUT i drove there with the sensor unplugged and it drove fine minus it backfired a couple times after decel. no miss no nothing, ideled fine and all. also i noticed when my tach jumps, the injector surges...what could cause this???

I would NOT buy a new map sensor, they rarely go bad... and they are easy to test. (plug it in, piggyback the voltage wire, and look for the voltage to go up and down when you change the vacuum. You can use a vacuum pump or just start/try to start the motor.)
And I have a box full in my basement if you really need one.
I have owned several Fiero's with the 2.5 ...... The MAP sensor is VERY important for a smooth running engine. I would HIGHLY recommend changing the map sensor if your duke runs poorly

I disagree with that... a bad map sensor may still go up and down with vacuum but at the wrong rate per vacuum drop... in other words they go out of calibration.

use only the G M delco map sensor this part has been improved ..its used on later models use GM # 12569240 or GM #2131545 MAP sensor ,,unless it has been up graded again they run $40 to $80 so shop if possible.. I think rock auto has the new GM map

My apollooooogee,,When youns guys disconect the map sensor and the car runs better this is a sign of a bad map sensor ,,my brain processing unit comes and goes,, this was a major mistake not to mention this .. Also I could not remember right now,, if you disconect the electrical connector and vacuum both ,,I think so,, this is useful diagnostic,,prime stuff for the unwashed fiero element and the intellectual dandies who daily waste a hundred gallons of valuable water.. needed info ! ! so I hope some Guru/Fiero master will chime in
uhlanstan is totally correct. The best way to see if the map sensor is the problem is to take it out, and see if it runs better. I take BOTH the electrical connector and the vacuum connector off, but i think you only need to take off the electrical connector.
Note, 213-1545 is the AC-Delco part #, and 12569240 is the GM part #.
As an aside, does anyone know why they connected the map sensor to the side of the air filter housing? Obviously the vacuum connector is what it is basing its "pressure", and it doesn't have anything to do w/ the air filter. Just convenience? Doesn't seem like a good spot, and that clip that holds it on always has problems. Does anyone see a problem w/ just bolting it to the back of the engine bay?

Dont anythign about the duke but on the 2.8 v6 that is not the MAP sensor thats the MAT sensor
The engineers decide where is best to mount Air temp sensor ,,on the duke it is mounted on the manifold,,it seems the manifold would be to hot,,unfortunately I think Voodoo is involved with this part to measure air temperature .. the duke and V 6 both use the same mat sensor Im running a used dirty duke sensor in my V6 and it seems fine
mounted right at the TBI entrance seems bests location to me,for the V 6,but do not have voodoo priestest to guide me (Im looking) cooler is better for MAP sensor probably convience,, or GM engineer big bong party determined location.. I would just attach it better to airfilter ,,I used all my skills and used ty rap to attach my map to V 6 custom look or mike rodent look,,mickeys tough hoodlum cousin l..
