Do 4x6 plate speakers like these Infinity 462.9cfp fit in the stock rear piller speaker locations. Anyone used any before?

The magnets looked to me like they might present clearence issues.

I dont have a direct answer being that I have not used them. I planned on doing so but upon research I discovered that they would not be a direct fit. Some mods would be required to fit. I am sure someone with more details will chime in.

I put the infinity reference 6412cfp set in my pillars...they barely fit...but they fit and sound good!

I believe depth is the main issue. Take careful measurements.

That's the exact model I used. First you have to very lightly grind away part of the retaining bracket to get a good fit and then use the foam strip included to make a sealed fit with the speaker bracket. It takes a little bit of maneuvering to get the magnet in, but it'll fit. Good luck.

EDIT: You'll also have to drop the crossover into the pillar. If it's hanging out (as pictured) the trim panel won't properly fit over it.

It looks like those Infinity plates were a lot easier to install than the Pioneer TSP462's I got for my 88. The magnet was too deep by about 1/4", then the crossover behind the tweeter had a lot of exposed capacitors, wiring and the like (they aren't separate like the infinity's). I ended up doing a bit of dremeling (don't have a grinder) and making my own mounts out of some scrap sheet lexan from my R/C car days. The panel barely fits over the assembly. I wouldn't recommend the Pioneer plates for a Fiero, but they definitely sound awesome once all the work was done. Anything probably sounds clearer than the stock speakers though.

If you have clearance issues, it's OK to use a BFH to move the metal a bit. It won't affect any alignments on the outside of the sail (body / trim attachmnet)

As long as the retaining plate is used there won't be any clearance issues.

I put in Infinity Reference Plates in my 87 GT about 4 years ago and it was a tight fit but they did fit! I know I had to remove the insulation in the pilar and do a little grinding on the plastic bracket but they fit.
