Good evening,

I just finished installing rebuilt calipers and brake lines. Bled the system and all works great. Now I have to install the e brake cables. This car never had the 2 rear cables so I am not sure how they are routed and hooked up. Does someone have a good schematic of how they are routed and how they attache to each other and the front cable. I am installing all three cables. I can't find any detail how the 3 cables come together. I also have a new equalizer. Only thing I am missing is the clips. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

P.S. I feel so much like Homer Simpson "DOH" - Does the 88 use the same setup? If so I suppose I could just crawl under my 88 and copy it!

Thanks Mike,

Been searching like a madman too! I'm sitting here in the living room with all the pieces and I can't make any sense of it. I'll keep digging. If you can get pics without going to too much hassle I would appreciate it. Thanks again.

From memory, but cant count on me being right here. The main cable has the threaded rod and goes into adjuster sleve from left which has the captured adj. nut then somehow the two cables come through the cradle or frame not sure which, and connect to each other captured in the right side of the adjuster, Now this is buggin me, gonna go look at my 3800 car and see if enough is still there to tell, the cradle is out right now.

hope this helps... not stock brakes or suspension... but you'll see the routing is close enough to stock.

Edited to put pictures in proper order....

Mike, IFLYR22, DR,

You guys are the best. The knot on my head from where I was banging it on the floor was starting to bleed. It looks pretty simple when you gotta pic to go by. I can't believe that I could not figure this out. With your help I may get to drive this in the morning! Thanks again guys. I really appreciate your efforts.+ all around.

Pat

Edit to add: DR. talk about another "Doh" moment. I just bought the front cable and the rear caliper piston kit from FS and never thought to look there for a diagram. I think I am approaching Fiero burnout.....lol

Ok, now what about those "clips" that the cables hang on. Can I fab some up or is there somewhere I can get them. I think I'll hit the junk yard in the am as there are a couple Fiero's laying around out there - maybe I'll get lucky and will be able to find 2. Any other alternatives you guys may have?

TIA

Im sure you could just "fab some up" Theres not much to them, Just something to hold the wire up to the cradle.

You might just make them. Most of the ones on the cars have rusted enough they break off at the bottom of the bend most times.

I use the plactic ty wraps with the screw hole on them to mount them back in place. I found the larger size in black. Just zip them on in the right location, trim the long end off and put the bolt back in...

Zip ties it is! Thanks again guys. Can't tell you how much your help means. These brake cables were "the straw that broke my back". I am so close to getting it out of the garage and spent the day messing with these cables. With your help, I had it all hooked up in 15 minutes.

I have a question similar to the above but specific to the drivers side rear wheelwell of my 1988 GT. I am not sure how the cable routes to the caliper lever and don't want the tire to hit and wear the cable prematurely. Do any of the options below match anyone's 1988 cable placements. Thanks in advance. Mike

Option 1: Image below details how the old cable was routed. Had some loose zipties holding the cable and areas where rubbber/plastic of cable was worn off.

Option 2: New cable installed with routing higher.

Option 3: New cable routed behind the wheelwell shroud. Cable is a little more kinked with this option.
