I have an 86 sport coupe 4cyl. New fuel lines, filter, injector and filter. I can't get the injector to inject gas. I can take a hobby transformer and get the car to run just fine. I have checked the grounds to the ECM and checked continuity to the ECM from the injector. I have 12v at the positive side of the injector. Is there anything else I can check or is the ECM toast? Is there a reference pulse that the distributor sends out that I can check somewhere? The car sat for 10 years in the weeds due to the coolant tube brackets rotting off. It ran when parked, and the only reason the previous owner stopped driving it is due to the coolant tube on the driver's side sagging to low. It has 83,000 miles on it.

Thanks
Rich

I had a similar issue where nothing was being injected. To fix mine, I had to correct an issue with the computer not getting power.
Hopefully this will help out some.

First things first, check to see if the ECM will provide any trouble codes. You should always get a code 12. If you don't, then the issue is with the ECM. Check for power at the ECM.

Have you checked for spark? Does the fuel pump run? There is an EST pulse sent to the ECM from the distributor module. The module will fire the plugs even if the EST signal to the ECM is blocked by wiring damage. The ECM will not fire the injector if it doesn't see the EST signal. But, do this quick test: Get a noid light from Autozone, it plugs into the injector connector and will flash when the ECM is firing the injector. If you have a flash then I suspect a fuel problem. No flash, that's a wiring/ECM problem.

As I said in my original post I can take a hobby transformer that puts out pulsed DC and get the injector to fire and at the same time start the car and it will run. I runs very nice with this set up, however when I plug in the injector harness I end up with a no run situation. So I know that there is spark, I know that there is fuel, I just can't figure out why there is no injector signal. What would I look for on the EST signal? Can I hook up my DVM and get some type of read out? If I have a spark does that guarantee an EST signal? I will check the wire to the distributor for continuity and a short.

You've verified that the injector will fire, but you haven't actually verified that the connector at the injector is seeing current. A noid light would verify that. You're assuming that indeed there is no signal at the injector. That could be caused by a failure of the EST signal from the module to the distributor. IIRC, the EST wire is tan. Check for a signal there while cranking.
