I have a set of Indy seats in my GT and recently aquired a power lumbar seat so the intent is to make a power lumbar Indy seat. I need to swap the entire set of skins upper/lower from the Indy seat to the PL seat correct? Then run wiring to fuse block. I think this is a given but I have a real concern on getting the placement of the power lumbar seat switch positioned just right when cutting the leather side bolster. Anyone done a similar swap that can advise.

Thanks

Don't cut the cover pior to putting it on. Once you remove the old cover you will see how GM cut it, install the new cover, feel where the controls are and then make your cut (similar to GM's) using a shape razor blade. This worked fine for me - however the bladders do not work so well with the leather covers - does not stretch too well (probably why you couldn't buy them with leather from GM when new).

Test the seat before you do this, the air bladders might be leaking, in which case order a new set from Rodney and isntall the new bladders while you are swapping the skins.

That was the approach I was going to take but first I had to have the entire switch assmbly pulled out and repaired. Seems like whoever owned this before me must have tried to mess with it and had the switch pulled loose from the basckside and the air tube broke off at one point. Repaired now so this Saturday will be the skin swap and power hookup. It will be nice to get this working in an Indy seat and my Performance Sound system too with a GM factory CD player. Soon ready for the warm weather driving season if it ever warms up!

Thanks

Hi Mike!

If it will help out, Mr. Mike has instructions on how to put his seat covers on a lumbar seat here:

http://www.mrmikes.com/fieroquestions.htm#lumbar

It is under question #4. I suppose the same thing would work for a different factory cover.

Have fun with the new "Lumbar Indy" seats!!

Hey Mike, as long as you're in there you might also think about putting in a seat heater. i have one in my driver's seat and it's Really nice on the chilly (sub-50 degree) winter nights we get here - you might really enjoy one in the mid-west . I've seen How-To threads posted b4 ....

Thought about the heated seat as I have another vehicle with that but this is a garage queen from November to May so doubt I would use it. If anything I need a chiller for the seat especially with the ttops.

Holy laughing my butt off..."chilly sub-50" requires a seat heater! I guess it really is a different world compared to Michigan out there!

I still have some sets on hand. I took them off my web page as Corvette owners started buying them. I prefer they all go to Fiero owners. I do not have enough to redo all the Fiero lumbar seats and the company is now gone so there will never be anymore.
