Hey everyone,

Just recently when i tried to move my 2000 s10 5-speed, i pressed the clutch pedal down and could not shift into any gears while the truck was on. But once i turned off the truck, i could press the pedal down and the gear shifter could go into any gear. The problem is only apparent when the truck is on. Its a 4cyl. 5-speed s10. If anyone could give me advice as to what to look for?

also, i checked the fluid level and it looks OK. i don't see any leaks any where around the pedal or under truck/ around firewall.

Thanks,

Mark

Cliff, if this topic is in the wrong location my apologies.

I would hazard a guess that you have a leak somewhere that has allowed air into the system.

should be able to bleed it.
since you will need a helper anyway, if you can see the slave, have your helper press the clutch down and see if it moves.
Once you get air in it, you have to bleed it. not a big deal, find thebleed , open it, put can under it have helper presh clutch in and hold it, close bleeder, release clutch. repeat til no air comes out, and keep an eye on the reserviour!!!!! only takes 2 pumps to empty one usually.
if that doesn't work you could have either a bad master or slave cylinder. (oh make sure the linkage form the clutch pedal is attached to the pushrod for the master.)

Turns out to be the pilot bearing. A friend of mine took a look at it yesterday, we're going to drop the transmission tomorrow.

I had a 99 S-10 5 speed. Had similar symptoms.
The previous owner used the wrong fluid for the clutch. It ate all of the seals. I had to put in a new clutch assembly.

Nevermind,
he dropped the tranny and you could clearly see the problem. The springs in the clutch disc were hanging out and all broken, they were scraping against the pressure plate, no wonder why i couldn't shift gears. LOL.
