I am about to replace the window motors in my '88 GT and I cannot find a write up on how to do it.
The only links I found on this forum did not work.
My biggest question is this:
Do I have to do anything to keep the window glass in place while I pull out the old motor?
On my S-10, it was critical to bolt the regulator gear to the arm to keep anything from moving.

FYI, in case you didnt know everything is riveted together, you will have to drill them all out. I replaced mine with 1/4-20 bolts. I have always removed the glass from the door first, then the motors, dont know if you can get the motors out without taking the glass out, never tried.

Thanks,
I am familiar with the whole rivet situation.
I am really asking if the glass will fall if you take out the motor without securing the regulator

I have removed window motors with the glass up. I taped it up with duct tape to be safe so it would not fall. When I removed the duct tape as an experiment, the window did not fall. I also put my motors back with 1/4 20 bolts and lock washers. As I recall, you have to remove the power locks to get the motors out.

i found a 86 gt at the PAP the other day. i started looking at the power window setup since the drivers side door panel was yanked mostly off. the motors look really small on the fiero. maybe take the motor off and replace it with a motor from a newer SUV or something of the sorts for faster windows. it lookes like the window up/down mechanical mechs is a scissor design. the design i want to use is a cable driven design like the 99+ impala uses.
