I would not rebuild a duke TBI unless there is some problem .. If you have no problem with the injector ,leave it alone
a rebuild would start with replace injector and fuel regulator . the regulator diaphram is easily damaged
the TBI can be cleaned with carb/injector cleaner,,make sure the area around the throttle plate is clean eyeball the injector to make sure the wires are in good shape & tight,, tighten up the 2 large screws that hold the upper body to the lower make sure the manifold to TBI gasket looks OK cut a small amount from each vacuum hose so you have tight connection ;
Add chevron techron injector cleaner to your gas ,,
or run a couple of tankfulls of chevron hi test thru the car
I have soaked the tbi injector overnight in carb/injector cleaner,, doubt it did any good ,,lucky I did not ruin it..it cost $20 to $35 to have it cleaned properly ..normally a cleaner you add to the gas will clean the duke injector
do not disconnect the main fuel line unless you really must, the more times you remove the connection the more likely the machined helmet connection will not properly mesh with the TBI hole(hmmm,,wonder how I know this)
clean IAC remove and clean out hole it fits in,, use soft rag or Q tips eyeball lower gasket
make sure manifold is connected tightly to head
on 87,88 models check vacuum module screws
If vacuum lines are harden replace with new ones
check fuel filter under car comming from tank ,, I remove it and tap the inlet end on a block of wood to see what crap comes out make sure (on 87 ,88 ?) that rubber lines that run to vapor tank are in good shape its beside battery.
a properly running duke the fuel will look like waves comming in at the beach at Idle.. you can see it flowing down the wall of the TBI.
Her lines flowed ,,She was an expensive looking woman,, I was soon drowned in debt.. ha ha
