My 4.9 project has a little rust.

I plan on just cutting out the rot and painting it before I put it back together. I will be relocating the battery.
Once I remove the metal, the overflow tank won't have anywhere to mount to.
Can I delete it and just connect the two hard lines with one of the rubber hoses?
Anyone done this?

Thanks!

The one line would come from the fuel tank and the other would goto the charcoal canister. Don't know is there was a line from the tank right to the canister or if that is the only one. Would think that is would be the only one since the tank was intended for fuel expansion out of the tank. I'd connect them together so the fumes can get to the canister but you will have to be carefull when overfilling the tank as you could fuel slug the canister.
My 2 cents for what it's worth.

Hummm i would trade the canister out for a non over flow and take the lines out of the rest of the car and block it off at the tank...unless the tank doesnt have any other vent...

Edit:
pull the lines from the canister to the tank from another car for the vent.....

Once you get the cancer cleaned out, We can build some brakets to remount the tank. I think thats the best course..... You are going to need that extra 1/2 gallon of gas......lol

If you remove the canister your Fiero will smell strongly of gasoline all the time, and that will also be the smell of $$$$ blowing away in the wind. I would highly recommend finding a way to retain the canister and the expansion tank that protects it.
