I'm replacing my CV axles on my 85 GT auto.
They are already out of the car...
In the meantime, I bought a seal puller from Harbor Freight and
I tried to remove the passenger side seal. Bad idea.....
I absolutely destroyed the seal trying to pry it out. It's pretty mangled now.

A) Need tips/advice on getting what's left of the seal out.
I'm ready to moto-tool through the edge of the seal so that I can get it out
and yes, I will be extremely careful not to cut into the trans case. Or...is
there another way?

B) How do you get out the driver's side seal? The trans shaft (male) is sticking out
and there's no way to get the seal puller on there.

Thanks, Kit 85 GT

I usually just use a long flat blade screw driver or small pry bar - insert the end in behind the lip of the seal (as close as you can get it to the case) and pry it out (bar up against the case on the opposite side). If not you can use a small chisle and hammer and bend the lip inwards or as last resort use a dremel (like you stated) and cut through it (carefully).

Hope that helps,
Tim

I ususally bend a lip up, then angle the screwdriver/chisel at a 45 degree angle and hammer it. This will sorta bend the seal inwards releasing the pressure on the interference fit.

Someone in here posted about this the other day. He said to use a claw hammer. Thought it to be pretty ingenious. Other that that, a cheap Harbor Freight seal puller. Good luck.

Excellent video!
Will help a lot....in fact I'm off to Orchard Supply to get my unofficial seal driver!
Regarding the Reatta...does it have a good winshield with no cracks?
One more favor Kevin...do you have their phone number??
The only problem is they are sooooo far away from me.

Oh,...and thanks for the video link! Kit
