We had an over-night 12 in. snow storm this winter which burried my'86 GT. After carfully sweeping it off I discovered what looks like a continuous monofilament string (line) hanging from the bottom of my left rear sail window. It obviously came out of the bottom of the window, but I have now Idea what it's for, why it came out and what I should do about it. Whoever has the answer to this please tell me. I don't know if it needs to be reinstalled, or if it's not that important and I can just cut it off at each end. Maybe there is a vidio of fixing this and you know of the link. Thanks guys.

That is the string that is used to remove the GT quarter window. From the factory GM put this inside the double stick tape so that you could remove the quarter windows without damaging them. If it is hanging out i would probably cut it off flush with the window so that someone doesnt go and pull it out thinking its just a string on the car.

It won't hurt anything to cut it at each end? It hangs down on the bottom from one end to the other. does that mean the seal is broken? I know a string is used to install front and rear windows, but never heard of using it in the reverse. Mine doesn't look like it is loose.

It is strictly used to remove the window. You would pull on it and it would cut through the factory adhesive. Most of the time the string is garbage anyway since it is so old. You can cut it off and it will not affect anything.
