Ive been looking at this website at the M62/MP62 superchargers and had some questions on them.

http://www.capa.com.au/eaton_m62data.htm

The MP62 looks like the one on the 3800 series engines, is this correct? Whats the purpose of the "bypass" valve and does that control the throttle plate on the bottom of the supercharger?

What engine did the M62 come on? It says it has a bypass valve but where does it go and what does it do because I dont see one.

Thanks,
Jason

I believe that the 62 was on the 3800 series I engine. The series II and III uses a M90. The valve is a boost bypass that essentially limits or prevents boost when the boos is not needed such as backing up the car, it also is supposed to help gas mileage by not working the engine as hard when you don't need the boost. Some people block the valve closed so that you can hear the"whine" better. The valve just opens a passage for the air to go around the the blower.

No, it does nothing to change the performance of the blower... People just take it out because they either dont understand it, or dont like looking at it.

DarkHorizon can you elaborate more on it? So is the valve open at idle and at low speeds and closed when the engine is running at higher Rpms?

Thanks,
Jason

This is always a nice topic since there are strong opinions from both sides. I have verified that some of this info is indeed on Eaton's website:
http://www.fastfieros.com/t...enoid_bypass_mod.htm

http://www.eaton.com/EatonC...chargerFAQ/index.htm

I don't know everything, nor do I think you should do anything with out checking facts before coming to your own conclusions. As with everything some people will always get lucky and will never see an issue and others will always see an issue when there should not be one.
