this deserves a sticky!

You ought to probably add to mention motor even if its an '84 due to swaps. Most people mention what they have if its swapped, but some don't.

I would not want a new PFF member to read this as it is.
It is sarcastic and condescending.

I suggest you take all the emotion out of it.
Leaving only the facts, in short sentences.

Wow, did not expect you to miss the humor. I completely disagree with your statement. You could have been a little warmer with your delivery too.

I did see the humor in the post.

But someone with a broken car, frantically looking for answers so they can drive to work the next day is not looking for humor.

every new PFF member that starts a new thread thinks their thread is about ME ME ME.

and it is.

if we ignore the new people because they fail to give us the information we want on the first try,
well, they may not come back.

maybe they are not mechanically inclined.
so they don't know a slow leak in the right rear tire has nothing to do with a slow battery drain.

if you want to be here to help, then help.
if you want to be here to make fun of people and feel better about yourself, well, I'm not sure what to tell you.

i think your post has good intentions.

say i'm a 16yo that just bought a 1984 fiero and i barely know how to change oil.
I'm all happy that i have my own car, but it just died on me.

i'm 16.
i cant afford to buy tools like a compression tester, or fuel presser tester.
hell, i could barely afford to pay the insurance.

again, i say your heart was in the right place.
just try to remember when you didn't know which side was the pointy end of a screwdriver.

Oh woah, wait a sec guys, hehe.

Buddycraig, first off, I've heard a great many things mentioned about you and the contributions you've made to PFF, and for that reason you have my respect and undivided attention. One doesn't post over 12,000 times and earn an entire bar of green reputation points without having earned the respect of his fellow members. I can't say I was ecstatic about your comments, but nonetheless, it's like being told by a village elder that my dress is too short - it warrants pause and a bit of critical thought before proceeding. Secondly, it appears that my particular brand of humor should come with a warning label. I didn't delete the original post; I just pulled it down and saved it to a word file so I could revise it in the manner you prescribed. While I can't promise to cut all the fat, I will give serious consideration to rewording some of the things you believe would turn someone away from PFF.

Lastly, for any of us to make fun of someone for not knowing howing to work on their car is no different than a nurse or a doctor making fun of you for not knowing how to diagnose some obscure pinky toe disease. But for any of us to not feel a little better about ourselves for helping someone out would be a shame and would lead me to wonder why anyone would do it.
