Hey everybody. I bought my first Fiero just after Christmas and I am finally getting around to working on it. I am focusing on the temp. gauge on the oil pressure gauge right now. The oil pressure gauge reads above zero when the car is off and is at 80 when running. It dropped down to 40 while I was cruising today, but that is the first time it has read anything below 80. I am going to start by replacing the sending unit, but I can't get the stupid thing off. I am afraid that I am going to break something. I'm sure that someone has a trick for getting it out.
Okay, now for the temp gauge. I haven't rewired it yet, so it still pegs. I plan on getting to that tomorrow. I decided to check the gauge today using 47ohm and 1.5kohm resistors. The gauge read almost 260 with the 47ohm resistor, but it didn't move when I tested it with the 1.5kohm resistor. I read somewhere that the gauge is supposed to read 100 at 55ohm and 260 at 1365 ohms. When I drive the car, the needle almost never moves. Sometimes it will come up to 100 or a little higher, but it won't go any higher than that.

I bought a set of stubby wrenches just to get at the oil sending unit. You may need two wrenches, one to hold the fitting and one to loosen the sending unit.
