If the fuel is dispensed in a fine mist, it will fog with the air present. That fog will suspend itself until the valve opens to allow the fog to be pulled into the cylinder. If you've ever worked on a carbed engine, you may have seen an engine cough back, and a fog of air/fuel mixture rises up and floats inside the mouth of the carburetor. Now, if the fuel stream strikes the sides of the intake, the droplets will likely bond together and become larger droplets, less likely to be suspended. Again, picture a garden hose sprayer adjusted to emit a cone shaped spray. Spray it into the air and the fine droplets stay suspended longer, but let them come into contact with a limb overhead and they adhere together and fall as larger droplets. The finer the mist, the better the combustion and the more efficient the engine becomes.

not only are Fiero's batch fired - they are also batch fired twice per revolution.
its not that it wont work if not fired at the back of a closed intake valve - that is just the preferred timing.
and - for more fun: the ECM has NO IDEA when TDC #1 is. so, it aligns the 2x per revolution batch firing on any ignition timing mark. everytime you start the car - the injector sequence starting point will be different.
