Do you have a 3800SC engine? If so the LQ4 or LS1 MAF sensor will work. The connector is different than the 3800 MAF so you will either need to splice another connector on or buy the adapter harness from ZZ Performance (easy solution). I went with the SLP LS1 MAF as it provides a very stable idle and it contains an interanl IAT sensor. In either case you will need to plug in the new frequency values into the PCM MAF table, for the sensor that you are using. This is mandatory for proper fueling.

lol dennis, The LS1 uses a metal maf, that uses the same connector and external air temp sensor. Any ls2 or truck motor is going to have the LQ4.

Not sure I understand what you mean as we did have to change the 03 GTP harness connector to accomodate the SLP LS1 MAF. Perhaps there are changes over the years that we are not aware of. We simplified connections with a ZZ 5 wire adapter.
The LS1 MAF that we used is a 5 pin sensor that contains an internal IAT. The 3800 used a 3 pin MAF and a separate 2 pin IAT sensor. . I believe that we used the Corvette.. 98-00 LS1 MAF. It is an 85mm unit that flows 895 CFM and it is definitely 5 wire.
The LQ4 also seems to be 5 wire. Take a look:

5.3 and 6.0 both use the same maf.

The LS1's did NOT use the 5 wire maf. Its possible a few vettes or gto's got them, but I wouldnt count on it. Trucks are your best bet.

I am running the LQ4 (5 wire w/ built in IAT sensor) truck MAF.
I think I paid around $50 for it brand new on E-Bay.
There are a few people that sell the 3-wire to 5-wire conversion plugs.
