I just joined the fiero fraternity.....

purchased a 85 2m4 with my 14 year old son...2 year project on a teens budget...haaa this should be fun.

first problem, the engine is a "new" rebuild....3 1/2 years ago. it has 6 miles on it!!!! and then it sat under a pine tree
i wish it had 500 or 1000 because i am worried about the damage i am going to do to this thing when i try to start it. assembly lube is long gone i'm sure but it ain't broke in at all. the timing is supposed to be off so that will need adjusted once i start it.

so, any suggestions on the best way to start this engine and not do any more damage than neccessary? How can i get the 3 1/2 year old gas out of the tank?

scott

gas can be syfonded out but you need a small rubber tube to fit in the fill tube around the spring
that is in there as a anti syfonding device

or drop the tank [ a real pain ]
DONOT PUMP THE TANK DRY WITH THE FUEL PUMP
running dry kills the fuel pump

you may want a new fuel filter and check the Fuel injector for good spray

for the motor I would pull the plugs cover the holes with rag and try to first hand turn a few turns
then crank to get the oil moving
new oil should be used or at least drain the oil and look at it for water

Question wonder and be wierd
are you kind?

I would put some Marvel Mystery Oil in all four holes. Turn it over about two times with a wrench from underneath. Let it sit for overnight with the plugs back installed. Remove the fuel pump relay and the plugs again.Try to spin it over again with the key. After you see good oil pressure replace the plugs. Don't try to let it fire off till you see the oil pressure on the gauge rise. You will need to remove the old gas. But with the fuel relay still out you can add about a WD 40 red cap full of fresh gas in to throttle body, carb looking thing, open the plate once then release it. Then hit the key. When it fires, have your eyes on the oil pressure gauge before it fires off. So be looking before you try the key. It should run about 3 seconds. If the timing is anywhere even close to being correct.

Make sure you follow the burping procedures before you try to start it more than 2 or three times.

Good luck
