Hi All Tried looking in the forum for an answer but couldn't seem to find anything. I recently picked up a 88GT wth a 4.9 and plan on swapping the rear cradle, engine etc over to my 86SE project car. I am told the 88 to 86 cradle swap will work.
Now, the question - can I put the 86 cradle in the 88...why? Because I want to keep the 88 and make it my second project car.
Many Thanks!
Tom

yes it will work, but, your going to have to custom make your coilover adapters for a 86 cradle in an 88, whats wrong with the 88 that you want to put the drivetrain into a 86?
also to put the 88 cradle in the 86, you will need the heldmotorsports coilover adapters, without these it makes things much more difficult and ugly, you will also need coilover suspension as the 88 springs will rub on the 84-87's and if you DONT use the adapters to give it the proper geometry, then the suspension will ride like crap and wont align properly.
ive got a 88 cradle in my 84, all and all if i had to do it over again, id have just left the 84 cradle in the 84 car.
i suggest keeping the 88 suspension in the 88, and just swapping over the powerplant to the 86 cradle.

Keep in mind you also end up downgrading the brakes from vented to solid rotors, and less durable calipers. I don't know if bores are different on the 88 brake calipers versus the 84-87, but if they are then the brake proportioning will be messed up.
