Cruise control Vacuum connection

I have a problem with the cruise control on my manual Formula. I have a RPO code K34.

In my research process I wanted to compare the cruise control connections with others Fieros, and then I realized that my vacuum connections are different than any other Fiero I have seen. Usually there is a vacuum canister under the servo. Not on mine

It looks like this:

The accumulator is bolted on the wall between the spare tire and the radiator in the front of the car. So there is a very long vacuum hose under the car.

Is it from GM, a recall or aftermarket?

Should I install a "tomato juice like " setup ?

I can't imagine why the vac accumulator would be so far away unless it is supplying another vacume device up front. It is very likely that the long hose is collapsing or leaking. They may have been trying to keep the plastic accumulator in a cooler place.
The one on my stock 86 is set up much different than yours. It has an electrical operated vacume switch mounted near the servo and the speed is controlled by a small computer mounted by the driver's knee under the carpet.. Your's looks like it is regulated strictly by engine vacume. That was a very early version of cruise control.

This is what it looks like under the trunk lid

The hose on right is the vacuum source
The hose on left goes to the release valve
The third goes to the accumulator

The 3 ports check valve block vacuum return from the accumulator to the source (that's my understanding)

The drawing is just the vacuum part of the cruise system.

I think he have the same electric setup as the other cruise equipped Fiero. He seem to have the small solenoid under the UFO, and I think he have the cruise module on the driver side too.

My theory is this one. Maybe GM in the last few production Fiero was short on tomato juice can so they replaced it with this plastic sphere...but since they dont think that this reservoir will stand reliably the hight engine compartement temp of the Fiero they decide to place it at the front end of the car.

Maybe I'm wrong. Is there other '88 Fiero owner that have the same setup?

It's an interesting running change to take note of. If its a running change.

Just to let you know, your cruise control set-up was high likely modified to work like the "original".

Since the fiero is over 20 years old, those soup can style containers rust out. The fiero store sells new re-pros like the OEM units. (I recently bought one myself)

Some mechanic or previous owner probably just did a simple "home repair" job to make it work.

I can't see why GM would of changed design just because they ran out of parts. Every 88 Canadian car I've seen had the soup can cruise control set-up.

Does the "ball type" container have a 8 digit GM part # on it??

But I will try to make it work like this, I need a vaccum feed in the front.

I believe this setup already worked.
