Question about headlamp motor rebuild by mjmeyerpa

I am replacing the bushings on my 88 Formula and my question is.....I have removed the side cover that exposes the steel shaft and large plastic gear but when I try to lift it out of the housing, it appears to be catching on something. The gear looks to be in good condition, so I don't want to start prying on it. Any ideas on how to pull out the shaft to get at the 3 bushings? THanks

Thanks, but that's the Generation I motor and the internals are different the the Generation II.

That motor is the more difficult one to repair as the gear catches on the drive motor, here's a good write-up by DrCPU:
