I tried following the guide as describe in the Ogre's cave, but it didn't go as smoothly as described. Here's what I did:

The radiator cracked at the driver's side plastic tank, at the bottom of the tank. Coolant leaked all over the driveway. Replaced radiator and front hoses. Uncapped thermostat housing and removed thermostat, filled until coolant spilled out of radiator at cap. Put cap on radiator. FIlled overflow tank to just above 'Add' line. Filled thermostat housing until almost overflowed. Took top hose off heater core, plenty of coolant spilling out.

Put cap on thermostat housing (without thermostat installed and started the car. Waited 20 seconds and removed thermostat housing cap. Coolant everywhere. Waited another minute. Same result. Turned off car, took cap back off, and coolant is slowly spilling out the neck.

So is it full? I only added about a gallon and a half. Overflow tank still just above the 'add' mark'. Total capacity is suppossed to be 3 gallons, unless there was a lot in the engine and pipes? Took about a gallon to fill the radiator.

Took it for a half-hour drive at highway speeds, averaging maybe 50mph, outside temperature 86 degrees Farenheit, gauge never got above 120 degrees, but that's probably because I didn't put the thermostat back in. I'll wait for it to cool off, put the thermostat in, and try again. Usually stays around 160. Level at overflow tank remians unchanged, no leaks.

You have to pull the hose back on the heater core while it's running, then slowly pull the top of the hose back to create a small opening. I had the same trouble you did when I bled my system as well. It always gets trapped at the core. When I cracked open the house, I held a rag around the bottom to catch some of the coolant, and sure enough, there was air in it. It was fine after that. But be prepared for a mess, and if you heater core is old, be careful how much pressure you put on the pipe. Mine cracked from the pressure.

Here's the process I used, I didn't bother with the heater core bleeding at all, just let the overflow tank take care of it:

On my car if the heater hoses were hot after a drive, then the heater core burp was not needed. Once I found the stopped up orfice in the heater system I have had no more "burping , or coolant" problems. Mine runs at 193* with a 195 thermostat. I used WinAdl fo verify.
